Pleasure Works First Mate Dildo

Forget the clever opening, I’m just going to be straightforward; the Pleasure Works First Mate Silicone Dildo is one of my favorite dildos I have ever tried.

Hedonish.com - Pleasure Works First Mate DildoThere’s been a bit of a hiatus in my reviews, and I started writing this one many, many months ago (sorry Good Vibrations!). I’ll be writing a post entirely about why I disappeared, but the point is—I am so glad I spent so much time reviewing the Pleasure Works First Mate. When I first got this toy I immediately noticed two things: first, that it’s super life-like, and that it looked just like my partner’s actual penis, so obviously my next step was to get him hard to compare and contrast. Not sure why he loves me enough to put up with my crazy antics, but he was a good sport about it.

The Pleasure Works First Mate comes in four skin tone colors, Vanilla, Caramel, Coffee, and Black— Black and Caramel are available in their standard single-density silicone, while the Firm-Core option (Pleasure Work’s name for dual-density silicone) comes in all four colors. I had the pleasure of testing the First Mate’s Firm-Core option, and honestly… it’s spectacular. I haven’t yet tried any of Vixen Creation’s VixSkin line, but I have felt them in stores, and Pleasure Work’s Firm-Core silicone feels very similar but at a lower cost (YAY!) The First Mate has an overall length of 7.5”, 7” of which are insertable, a diameter of 1.75” at the base and 1.5” towards the tip. Like all silicone toys, it can be easily sanitized and is body safe.

When it first arrived it felt smooth and realistic, however after washing many times the silicone has gotten a bit tacky, but with just a bit of cornstarch it easily returns to a silky feel after washing. The First Mate also has a nice wide base, making it easier to hold on to, safe for anal play, and perfect for harnesses. As a bonus, although it’s not advertised as having a suction base, it has a slight curve to the base and will actually suction to some flat objects.

I have the world’s most uncooperative vulva, and I was recently diagnosed with vulvodynia and lichen simplex on my vulva, so whether stimulation feels good has become pretty hit or miss, and depending on a number of factors my range of sensation can be anything from “holy shit, that’s good” (I love those days) to basically everything feeling kind of painful.

And yet, the First Mate nearly always feels good, and I have a couple of theories about why that is:

1 )It’s basically the perfect size for me and makes me feel full without being uncomfortable.

2) (With lube) There’s virtually no friction.

3) It’s firm or soft in all the right places.

4) The First Mate’s subtle “veins” on the shaft offer just enough of a texture to feel great without ever being painful (My skin is really sensitive and I find most textures irritating.)

5) The outer “softer” silicone doesn’t feel overly squishy, and it still has enough shape that I feel the ridge on the head.

6) It can be thrusted without feeling like your cervix is getting beat up.

It’s basically the recipe for my ideal dildo.

I have ridiculously tiny hands, so this might not be the best representation of scale. Sorry!

Sigh… I could honestly go on and on about how much I love this dildo. I didn’t have particularly high hopes because although I like dildos, I’ve never loved any of them, and yet here I am gushing (pun intended) about the First Mate.

So what are you waiting for? You can grab one for yourself at Good Vibrations or SheVibe and let me know what you think!
