If you google the Lelo Ella, you’ll find blog posts that often sound more like love letters then sex toy reviews.

Lelo Ella - hedonish.comElla is beautiful; mine is a matte plum color and the soft feel of it constantly makes me wonder why my other silicone toys don’t feel nearly as awesome. Seriously, it feels like the cashmere of sex toys and is super silky against your skin. There’s virtually no drag at all with this material, and as a dog owner I can happily say Ella attracts less dog fur then any other silicone toy I own (but a  little dust/fur does is unavoidable on virtually all toys).

The Lelo Ella is an elegantly designed silicone double-ended dildo with each end offering completely different stimulation from the other. One end is straight and comes to a slight point, while the other end is angled for g-spot stimulation. Ella is about 7 inches long, is about 4 inches around at the widest points; around the thickest part of the straight end of the toy and around widest section of the g-spot end. The neck of the toy leading up to the g-spot end has give, but is still firm enough that you can apply pressure and it won’t bend without a decent amount of effort. Ella is made of silicone so it’s best to use water-based lube, and clean up is extremely easy, but extra attention should be paid to the small embossed Lelo logos on each side as lube can sometimes get stuck in the letters (don’t worry you can’t feel the letters during use). To clean up you can use antibacterial soap and water, a 10% bleach solution, the top rack of your dishwasher (sans detergent) on sanitize, or you can boil it. Ella also does not have a flared base, so it’s not a good candidate for anal play. Lelo Ella - hedonish.com

The curves and ridges on Ella’s straight side feels great when I squeeze my muscles around it, however the point on the end can feel a bit stabby if thrust too hard. The g-spot end is largely what has inspired this toy to become a favorite of many. Inserting the g-spot end of Ella felt really satisfying. I don’t own any very large toys, but most are quite a bit thicker then Ella, so I was surprised at how substantial Ella felt considering it’s relatively small.  I think it’s because Ella has a bit of a flare where the neck transitions into the flat g-spot area. The flare also creates this feeling that Ella is “locked” inside me while/immediately after I orgasm, since my muscles tend to spasm and clench down like crazy, and Ella’s hard to get out until my muscles calm down. This doesn’t bother me at all and actually feels quite good, but I’m way too busy enjoying my orgasm to be bothered by anything anyways. I did notice that when sliding the dildo in and out, I felt like it got “caught” on my pubic bone. For me, this is more of a weird feeling rather than a painful one, but I know it’s something that’s felt uncomfortable to other users. I don’t think this would be a deal breaker for most, but it’s a good thing to be aware of.

Lelo Ella - hedonish.comI definitely have a design crush on the Lelo Ella, but I really wish it was a few inches longer. With Ella’s length it’s challenging to reach the end of the toy and be able to hit or apply pressure where I wanted to. I often find that I feel this way about other dildos as well, and I’m fairly petite, so maybe it’s my short arms that are the issue.

A good friend of mine has told me on a number of occasions that her g-spot is like a combination lock; a few times to the left, around to the right, back to the left… BAM, orgasm. Everytime. I’m basically the opposite, and what feels good to me one day often does nothing for me the next. I bought Lelo’s Ella few years ago after reading a few other glowing reviews about the magical g-spot orgasms it bestowed. Even though I haven’t had a g-spot orgasm yet, I was able to bring myself to orgasm using Ella, (with the help of a bit of clitoral stimulation) but the orgasms didn’t really come easily for me with this toy. I think if I were to redesign this toy specifically for my body I would make it longer so I could comfortably angle better, and alter the angle of the flat edge down more as I think my g-spot is closer to the vaginal opening then most and I felt like only the bottom of the flat edge was coming in contact with my g-spot.

Despite not having mind-blowing g-spot orgasms with Ella the way I’d hoped, I feel like using it was a good step in figuring out what works for my body, and I have a better idea now of what does and doesn’t work for me then I did without the Ella.

I’ve heard so many good things about the Ella, and I think it’d be a good size for me. Alas, I am both broke and currently not in support of the Lelo brand. Thanks for the review!

  2. Thanks for the review! The image of you bending Ella was very useful–it looks a lot more flexible than I would have expected (I assumed it would be made of a lot firmer silicone than that). I also have yet to have a gspot orgasm, so I’ve been trying to look for good toys to help with that. I just picked up a Rave, but it feels really firm and sometimes uncomfortable because I’m so used to softer silicone toys. Ella looks like a pretty great option for me to consider based on your review. 😀
